SurfControl Mobile Filter Client Version 3.0.0.13 ReadMe

 June 2008

Welcome

SurfControl Mobile Filter Client v3.0.0.13 is a hotfix for SurfControl Mobile Filter customers who experience compatibility problems with other software. This hotfix is for customers who have SurfControl Mobile Filter v5.5 with Service Pack 3 installed on the server and Mobile Filter Client v 2.3 or 2.4 installed on the client.

Versions 2.3 and 2.4 of the Mobile Filter Client are built on Microsoft’s Layered Service Provider (LSP) architecture. This hotfix replaces the LSP design of the Mobile Filter Client with Microsoft’s newer Transport Driver Interface (TDI).

This hotfix can be installed on Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista clients.

Installation

  1. Download the new Mobile Filter Client hotfix software from the Websense Knowledge Base, article #3419.

  1. Use Add or Remove Programs from the Windows Control Panel to uninstall the Mobile Filter client.

You must either supply the password that you set during the installation of the Mobile Filter client or use Password Bypass to gain access to the uninstall process. The password is available in the Client Administrator. The Password Bypass feature is described in the Administrator Menus section of the SurfControl Mobile Filter Administrator’s Guide.

On Vista, log on as Administrator or disable the UAC (User Account Control) before uninstalling clients. To disable the UAC:

1.       Select MSCONFIG from the Run menu.

2.       Click the Tools tab.

3.       Choose Disable UAC and click Launch.

4.       Close MSCONFIG.

5.       Reboot the client.

  1. Restart the machine after uninstalling the client software.

  1. Install the Mobile Filter Client hotfix in one of the following ways:

·          Install each client manually by either copying the setup files to a shared network drive that your remote devices can access, or create a CD of the client software and then manually install it on to each device.

Double-click the Mobile Filter.msi or setup.exe file to begin the client installation. (On Vista, use setup.exe unless you are logged in as Administrator or the UAC is disabled.)

·          Use Group Policy to perform a silent install. See the SurfControl Web Filter Starter Guide, “Using Group Policy to Silently Install Clients” on page 50 for more instructions.
